Before the Move
The Cube Moving and Storage team has moved a lot of people over the years – and here’s what we’ve learned that can help you prepare for the big day. Packing:
If you’ve chosen to pack your own belongings, start early. Items in your attic, garage or the back of your closet which aren’t used frequently can be packed as soon as you decide to move. Don’t forget to leave a few basic necessities out so you can use them until you’ve unpacked at your new home! Bills:
Contact your utility company as soon as you’ve set a moving date. Don’t forget about the cable company, trash collector and phone company. If possible, give them your new address so they can be prepared to connect service in your new home. Travel:
Reconfirm your travel reservations and keep airline tickets, car rental receipts or any other travel information handy – and keep it out of packed boxes. Mail:
Pick up a Change of Address form at the Post Office, or download a Change of Address form here, and drop it in the mail as soon as you can. You can indicate the date you’d like your mail delivery to change. Department of Motor Vehicles:
In most states, the Department of Motor Vehicles requires you to change your address within sixty days of a move; they may require proof of address if you’re moving outside New York. Moving Tips – Moving Day
